WHEELING - A boy found a gun Monday in his grandmother’s yard just a few doors down from a Wheeling Island shooting that happened Sunday evening, according to Wheeling Police Lt. Marty Kimball.
Kimball said the family called police and they have determined that the gun matches the casings found on New Jersey Street near the Third Alarm Bar.
Already arrested is Deandre Davis, 20, of Wheeling. Davis is charged with three counts of malicious wounding, one count for each of the three people struck by the gunfire. None of those struck are being cooperative, Kimball added.
This gun found on the island could lead police to pursue another arrest, Kimball said. He added that police believe Sunday’s incident is the same group of people involved in a Centre Market shoot out last week.
However, it is not believe to be tied to the May 13 murder of Omoniyi Bakare, 22, a West Virginia University student found dying on the sidewalk near Minit Car Wash on National Road in Wheeling.
They are still asking for Darrian Cordell, a person of interest, to come forward in the May 13 incident.
