Bristol Palin Makes Acting Debut on 'Secret Life'

(CANVAS STAFF REPORTS) - Bristol Palin, a 19-year-old mother and the daughter of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, will soon have her acting debut.

Palin will play herself in an upcoming episode of ABC Family's "The Secret Life of the American Teenager." The episode will air on July 5.

In the episode Palin befriends lead character Amy, played by Shailene Woodley, at a band camp held exclusively for teen mothers.

The drama chronicles Amy's unplanned pregnancy. A clip of Palin's acting debut has been released and so far is not garnering favorable reviews.

"You know how it's hard to read sarcasm on the page sometimes?" blogged Sarah Walker on BESTWEEKever.tv . "I feel this way about Palin's read of the line, 'You're the world's greatest French horn player. And I'm Yo-Yo Ma.' I actually believe that she might be Yo-Yo Ma."

EW.com Pop Watch's Annie Barrett wrote, "tell me if you thought there was going to be a major twist with her character, and that right after she recited "We're all teen moms," she would suddenly transform into a robot."

Barrett called the acting terrible, "but hey, Bristol is just a responsible citizen of the good ol' U.S. of A., doing her part for a television ratings stunt."

The Washington Post reported that WaPo Team TV's "Secret Life of the American Teenager" correspondent Emily Yahr had the following to say:

"We could describe the zombie-like way her eyes glaze over during the line, 'We're. All. Teen. Moms.'"

Zap2It quoted Palin as saying she wanted to help the show "educate teens and young adults about the consequences of teen pregnancy."

Watch a clip of her performance.
