(CANVAS STAFF REPORTS) - Whether or not Rihanna is just embarrassed, or if she really believes it, her recent grammatical tattoo faux pas has the world analyzing it, and not just the French.
When the "Umbrella" singer was recently photographed with a new tattoo on her neck reading "Rebelle Fleur," it was quickly pointed out that if she was looking to have the tattoo read as "rebellious flower," the words should have been switched to the other way around, The Sun reported.
See the photo here .
Rihanna is defending the tattoo, claiming that there is nothing wrong with it because it should read "rebel flower."
She even sent a text to the tattoo artist responsible for the ink, Keith 'Bang Bang' McCurdy, which read, according to The Sun , "rebelle fleur translates to rebel flower, NOT rebelious flower, its 2 nouns so in that case fleur does not HAVE to be first! Fyi, cuz they will ask."
McCurdy was sent the text as a guideline of what to say to the press and obviously didn't keep the text private and publicized it.
If the tattoo is in fact grammatically incorrect, Rihanna has no need to worry. The UK's MTV website revealed that the tattoo is temporary and can be removed in three months if she decides she does not want to keep it.
Not to be singled out, Rihanna isn't the first celebrity to commit a tattoo typo.
Rapper Coolio debuted a tattoo on his bicep as a homage to the band Insane Clown Posse who was touring with him; however, his good intentions ended up with a memorable misspelling.
TMZ.com reported that the tattoo reads "Jugalo Cool" to represent the fact that the ICP's fans call themselves "juggalos." But his "jugalo" is one "g" short.
Coolio told TMZ that the misspelling was intentional and he is leaving it as is.
