(CANVAS STAFF REPORTS) - Most people scour Facebook in search of childhood friends, high school pals and ex-girlfriends.
But Andy Spiers-Corbett of Great Britain took to the popular social networking site last month in search of his long-lost father. And he found him.
"'There's been a big part missing for so long but now everything is all right," Andy said of his reunion with his father Graham Corbett after 37 years apart, according to the Daily Mail .
Thirty-nine-year-old Andy was just two when he last saw his dad. Graham left home after he divorced his son's mother. Now 61-years-old, Graham called losing track of his son "one of the worst decisions I ever made."
Both men spent decades trying to track each down – even hiring private detectives -- but in the end it turned out father and son were only a mouse-click away.
Two weeks ago, Andy typed his dad's name into Facebook and instantly recognized his father.
"There were about 15 Graham Corbetts that came up but I saw this picture and my heart just started pounding. I knew it was him," Andy told The Daily Telegraph . ''It was like looking at myself when I'm 60."
Andy sent a message and waited. Days later Graham responded: "Hello son."
The father and son have since shared a teary reunion at Graham's home, where Andy discovered he has two half-brothers and a half-sister, as well as nieces and nephews.
"There were a few tears shed," Graham, a former civil servant, told the Deccan Herald . "I was in bits when he came to see me. Tears were shed but now we're making up for lost time. I'm so happy."
