BB Gun Hoax Gets Grandfather in Trouble

(MYFOX NATIONAL) - A hoax ended up getting one Ohio grandfather into trouble with police this past weekend after he had his 14-year-old granddaughter hold a BB gun to his head while driving reports The Middletown Journal .

Miamisburg police responded to a 911 call from a man that reported seeing a passenger of a green minivan holding a gun to the head of the driver.

Police officer David Ooten responded to the call and pulled over the van. He reports that he saw two children in the car and had them exit the vehicle and sit in the police car because of safety reasons due to traffic. Ooten then told the driver to step out of the van.

Ooten patted down driver Robert Rice, but did not find a weapon.

Once questioned, Rice told police that this was all a misunderstanding and that he and his granddaughter were joking around. Rice explained that he told his granddaughter to hold the chrome plated BB-gun to his head and pretend that he was a hostage. The granddaughter reiterated the same story to police when questioned separately.

The reason Rice didn't have the gun anymore was because during the time between police pulling him over and the 911 call, he had dropped off the BB-gun with his other grandson.

Rice thought the prank would be a funny joke, but Miamisburg Capt. Ron Hess did not agree. Hess told the newspaper , “How stupid can you be?”

When the children's parents arrived at the scene, the father was given a disorderly warning by police because he wouldn't stop cursing and yelling about his children being in the back of the police car.

Rice was given a summons for inducing panic.
