Spring Break Speedo Prank Upsets Florida Residents

(MYFOX NATIONAL) - When you think of Spring Break, wild and crazy all day and all night beach parties usually come to mind.

But according to the Northwest Florida Daily News , Panama City Beach area residents got an unusual surprise at the start of this year's dreaded annual college party week.

Locals were taken aback when seven college students visiting the beach town at the start of the weekend got their kicks by dressing up in daring costumes on a trip to a Kmart store.

The group of young men got the attention of shoppers when they entered the retail outlet dressed in racy Speedos, a wizard's outfit, a white dress paired with red panty hose and lipstick carrying a sex toy.

And while the culprits – aged 18 to 20 – said their antics were in jest, the Bay County Sheriff's Office said customers were quite disturbed by the disruption.

"We weren't thinking," the youngest of the pranksters who were kicked out of the store by police, Chris, told the paper. "It was stupid… I don’t know why we did it."

But with cooler temperatures than previous years in Florida this March, Spring Breakers are getting bored without adequate weather to enjoy their usual partying on the beach routine.

MSNBC.com reports that the prank transpired just as Panama City Beach tourism leaders were trying to clean up their image.

For the first time since the 2001 terrorist attacks a new airport, Northwest Florida Beaches International, is set to open in the area at the end of May.

"There are folks in our community who wish the spring break would go away, but there are others whose depend on it for a major part of their business," Dan Rowe, president of Panama City Beach's Convention and Visitors' Bureau.

But according to UPI.com , this dress-up practical joke doesn't even compare to a 2008 March Break prank that three young men pulled involving detonating dynamite at a Daytona Beach hotel.
