(MyFOX NATIONAL) - Since a 7.0 earthquake devastated Haiti last week, numerous
stars have been urging people to donate to the relief effort.
But according to
Access Hollywood, former View co-host Rosie
O'Donnell is challenging more celebrities to dig into their own
pockets.
“It’s like, if you’re gonna go on and
you’re a millionaire, please give a million dollars. Like,
there should be a cover charge to do those, in my opinion,”
said the Sirius XM radio host about A-listers on telethons.
So far, an
USmagazine.com reports, Angelina Jolie and
Brad Pitt were first to donate $1 million to Doctors Without
Borders.
The global advocacy group Not On Our Watch – founded by
Pitt, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle and producer Jerry
Weintraub – pledged another $1 million.
Supermodel mom Gisele Bundchen – who earned a whopping $35
million in 2009 – dug deep, contributing $1.5 million of her
own money to the Red Cross, according to
The Boston Globe.
On the Golden Globe Awards red carpet Sunday, Sandra Bullock
revealed her million-dollar contribution to Doctors Without
Borders: “I wanted to ensure that my donation would be used
immediately to meet the needs of the Haitian people affected by
this catastrophic event.”
Writing a check for $250,000 to the Red Cross, Madonna said in a
statement: "My prayers are with the people of Haiti. I can't
imagine the terrible pain and suffering they are experiencing.
Sadly the depths of the tragedy are just becoming known and the
need for our support grows more urgent with every passing
moment."
Lance Armstrong's LiveStrong Foundation also gave $250,000 to
Doctors Without Borders and Partners in Health.
Actor Tyler Perry gave $250,000 and actress Alyssa Milano
donated $50,000 to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, urging U.S.
corporations to match her donation.
